The 10 Most Annoying Sitcom Characters of All Time

In the American remake of *The Office*, David Brent is transformed into the dim but lovable Michael Scott, who ultimately becomes a more relatable character. Brent, on the other hand, would likely not resonate with U.S. audiences; his smugness, lecherous behavior, and borderline sociopathic traits make him unlikable. While everyone has had a boss with some annoying qualities, Brent’s extreme personality is one that most viewers would find hard to tolerate.

John Larroquette may have won four Emmys for his portrayal of defense attorney Dan Fielding in *Night Court*, but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s quite annoying. Fielding’s rude, callous, and sexist demeanor often overshadows his accomplishments, making every scene he’s in feel exhausting. Yet, there’s something undeniably charming about his character that makes us appreciate him, leaving us to wonder how *Night Court* would be without his over-the-top antics.

Major Frank Burns, portrayed by Larry Linville, was one of the most annoying characters in the iconic ’70s sitcom *M*A*S*H*. As one of the two irritating roommates, his antics grated on the nerves of both the characters and the audience. After Linville left the show following season three, he was replaced by Charles Winchester, played by David Ogden Stiers, who proved to be just as annoying, maintaining the show’s tradition of difficult personalities in the camp.

Ari Gold, played by Jeremy Piven in *Entourage*, is the epitome of a difficult Hollywood agent. As one of the worst people in the world, he’s insufferable from the moment he appears on screen, with his abrasive personality and over-the-top antics. Yet, despite his flaws, there are moments when viewers find themselves unexpectedly rooting for him, making his character a compelling contradiction in the series.

Just the name “Marcy D’Arcy” is enough to get under your skin. Portrayed by Amanda Bearse, Marcy is the irritating next-door neighbor of the Bundys on *Married… With Children*. She constantly meddles in their lives, making things difficult for them at every turn. As viewers, it was hard to side with her, as her relentless attempts to impose her values only added to the chaos of the Bundy household.

Gina Linetti, portrayed by Chelsea Peretti, is one of those characters that audiences loved to hate in *Brooklyn Nine-Nine*. Known for her cruelty and sharp tongue, she often makes life difficult for anyone who crosses her path. Her antics make her one of the most reviled characters on the show, despite the comedic moments she brings. It’s a testament to Peretti’s talent that Gina remains such a memorable, if frustrating, part of the series.

Hazel Wassername – 30 Rock

Hazel Wassername, played by Kristen Schaal in *30 Rock*, only appears in a few episodes toward the end of the series, but she quickly cements her status as one of sitcom history’s most annoying characters. Her over-the-top antics and irritating personality make her just as disliked by fans as she is by the other characters in the show. Schaal’s portrayal ensures that Hazel leaves a lasting impression, even if it’s not a positive one.’
