When Suzanne Gibbons, the founder of Animal Haven sanctuary in Ireland, heard about a donkey stuck in floodwaters, she knew she had to act fast.
After a storm broke down the gate of the donkey’s enclosure, the animal wandered out and became trapped in rapidly rising waters.
The donkey’s owner reached out to Gibbons, explaining the dire situation and asking for her help.

Realizing she needed immediate assistance, Gibbons took to Facebook to request help.
She explained that she would need a boat, strong men, and rope to have any chance of rescuing the stranded donkey.
Thankfully, it didn’t take long for people to respond to her post.
The local community rallied, offering the necessary supplies and manpower to carry out the rescue.

Initially, Gibbons struggled to find anyone willing to brave the dangerous floodwaters with her.
She explained to BuzzFeed News,
“At first, I couldn’t find anybody willing to help me go in because the river was flooding really badly.”
But soon enough, Mike Fleming, a member of the Killorglin Rowing Club, stepped forward to assist.
He offered not just his help but his boat, which would be crucial for the mission.
